We are pleased, just in time for Father's Day to off this great RAILROAD LANTERN by DRESSEL of ARLINGTON, NJ, USA . Found recently in a local estate, this great piece is 2 of 2 I have listed (you may want the pair the other end earlier than this one). The family told me that their Grandfather & Great Grand Father were both Railroad men, they worked for the Atlantic Coastline & the Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac. This item is in pretty good shape for it age and the type of work it was used in. This one is in better condition than the mate I also have listed. It is my understanding that it was used in the track intersections as a warning device. As for age, I'm guessing the early part of the 1900's, probably pre-World War I, certainly pre-WWII.

This lantern is very large measuring about 14" (without the handle) tall & 9 1/2" across. The glass portions, which alternate between BLUE & RED are about 6 1/2" X 6 1/4" (not figuring for the curvature of the glass). the cap is 4 3/4" with the Dressel logo on it. The handle extends almost 11" from the base of the chimney to its tip. T is a wick extender, however the tank for the oil & burner are missing (although, it could have been converted by the RR for electric use & they took the burner out). Its such a rare piece that i dont think any of the ware or missing portions hinder it in any way . This is a very heavy piece! THIS WOULD BE AN AWSOME ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION, so bid with confidence. I thanks you for looking.
