Hi, up for auction is a real lighthouse lens from the Bolivar lighthouse , shut down and now privately owned. I bought this at an estate sale in Clearlake Texas - man said been in his family for years - t are 2 inverted magnifying lenses ,they are big, almost started a fire on the dock wall w we live, hubby put a shirt over it to deflect sun rays . If local stop by & see, or pick up in person. Meaurments are Each lens is14 " wide X 3 " thick - the metal frame meaures 26"X19 1/2 " X 7 " thick and probaly weights 30 lbs . Has a few slight chips in the crystal w it is held in place with what looks to be bakelite, chips are minor and in no was effect the preformance of the lenses. The rack looks like it slides in place, perhaps this was for some sort of range or approach light sector. Shipping will probably be around 65.00 + boxing materials to ship UPS- thanks for looking & happy bidding. this is the maginfying lens that goes in side the out side lens, that directs the point of light.---P?S - 's a few links I have found, I have yet to come across any lens like this. Thanks ************************************** also know to be identical to: the madagorta lighthouse- Point Bolivar LighthousePort Bolivar, Texas The original lighthouse, which was identical to the original Matagorda Island Lighthouse, was established in 1852. During the Civil War, this lighthouse was completely dismantled and the parts removed. The current tower was constructed and was lit in November of 1872. It is constructed of cast iron with brick lining. Although in its early days the lighthouse had red and white bands , it is now black in color. The tower has a height of 116 feet. Point Bolivar light was deactivated in 1933 and is now privately owned. The lighthouse is located on and is easily visible from Highway 87, just across the ferry from Galveston, Texas.
