This is a splicing tool that was used in the early part of the 20th century for making twist splices. It is marked (CRESCENT TOOL COMPANY. N.Y). on the lower portion of the jaw. The other side of the lower jaw is marked with two patent numbers with no dates. The upper portion is marked on one side with (No 750-23) on one side and the other has the sizes of wire that fit this die ( 4, 2, 4, 2,) and it also reads (SOLID ACSR)... The tool is in good condition with surface rusr covering the metal portions however is still a fine example of the early Lineman's trade.
