This is a splicing tool that was used in the early part of the 20th century for making twist splices. It is marked (CRESCENT TOOL COMPANY. N.Y). on the lower portion of the jaw. The other side of the lower jaw is marked with two patent numbers with no dates. The upper portion is marked on one side with (No 750-23) on one side and the other has the sizes of wire that fit this die ( 4, 2, 4, 2,) and it also reads (SOLID ACSR)... The tool is in good condition with surface rusr covering the metal portions however is still a fine example of the early Lineman's trade. I have been a Lineman for almost twenty years and an avid collector of antiques and I know that these are somewhat hard to find... I have another one of these listed but it unfortunately is not the mate to this one.
