~*~Hello and thank you for looking~*~ ~~ .Stunning! This roll of hand-woven antique linen from Europe has the most wonderful dense weave! Lovely heavy weight! ~ this wonderful linen was hand-woven sometime in the 1800's and would have been woven for use as heavy sheeting, clothing, and other household textiles. It has the most wonderful springy hand!~ lovely smooth texture, but still has the wonderful unevenness of a stunning homespun linen. This roll is slightly paler on one side than the other ( these textiles were often unrolled and 'field bleached' which was to lighten the tone of the linen in the days before commercial bleach!~The tone of each side is a gorgeous warm , pale natural tone. On the very end of this roll, there are 2 stripes that run the width that was the signature of the weaver. This roll is very high quality, very durable!~ the end is finished with a hand stitched hem, stored carefully for many many years!~ ~*~ It would be ideal for large upholstery projects, slipcovers , curtains, bedding and many other wonderful projects. ~*~ ( I have attached some photographs to show some of the many uses of these fabrics, not included with this purchase, just for inspiration ) ( roll 701)Measurements: This roll measures 16 yards long by 19inches wide CONDITION : This beautiful fabric is in original as found, unwashed condition with light storage dirt that will wash beautifully. There is a small mark in the 6th yard that penetrated the back so I don't think this mark will fully wash and will leave a pale trace behind. There are other small marks, however I am nearly certain that they will all wash beautifully. The majority of these pale dirt marks are on the darker side of this roll, and would have been where it was laid in the field to be sun bleached! ~ A stunning textile~*~~Please see my store page “ About Hand-woven, Homespun Yardage” for more information on these wonderful textiles ~ For large projects like the sofa, plain linen can be used on the sides and backs!! The average age of these textiles is 100 years and they were naturally home grown, home retted ( in local lakes and ponds) and woven by hand. The timeless beauty of this linen and their extraordinary quality make these textiles the perfect choice for any home~ and an environmentally friendly choice~*~ ~*~This wonderful fabric has so many uses:~*~Upholstery, bedding, cushions, curtains,clothing, Roman Blinds, bags, ~ so many wonderful sewing projects~*~ ~*~The woman weavers of yesterday would spend their evenings weaving these amazing rolls of linen. It took the average woman 1 night to weave 60 centimeters ( 24 inches) of linen ~*~ These rolls are 100% machine washable, on warm..if there is visible dirt, just add a bit of Oxywash! They are so easy to wash! They can be dried in the tumble dryer! ~*~ Also they can be line dried ~ , simply spin dry then remove when wet. Roll the linen tightly and let sit overnight. In the morning unroll and allow to dry naturally~ this presses the linen and there is usually no need to iron ( unless you prefer it perfect). Pure linen or hemp rolls tend to have no shrinkage, the rolls with cotton tend to have some shrinkage. These rolls are tough and sturdy, built to last.....and last...
