Description: I wasn't able to find out much about this nice brass oil lamp, given the markings. Some of the embossing has worn off, but originally read as "Hitchcock Lamp Lovell & Company 18 (eagle symbol) 88. This apparently is not the same as the more famous mechanical Hitchcock lamp and I do not know if the two are related in any way. This lamp operates by filling the font with fuel and raising and lowering the wick using the wick key. The chimney may not be original to the lamp, but it is nice and features a pretty crimped top. The only decoration on the lamp are small cutouts of up-ended hearts on the neck and clovers on the base. Condition: The brass could use polishing and I do notice one 1/8" shallow dent on the font. There also is some rust on the interior, as can be seen in Picture #7. The wick key turns easily. There is a separation on the part that holds the chimney in place, but I'm not sure if it's a break or meant to be that way. There are a couple scratches on the chimney. Height: 16 1/2" incl. chimney Diam: of base, 5 3/4" Weight (unpacked): 1 lb., 9.6 oz.
