SPECTACULAR A NTIQUE - Two-part-Early MAHOGANY -1830's AMERICAN PLANTATION DESK A most wonderful piece of early19th century American furniture, beautifully fashioned, and boasting a most elegant grained glossy mahogany finish This is a beautiful match crotch Mahogany veneers, and solids, American plantation desk with all of the frills. It is in good, as found, condition. It looks to be all original. I see no maker's tags or stamps, but t are indicators that it is quality built furniture. It has four finely crafted legs- with classic turned and reeded styling. The drawer dovetail construction and hand-planed drawer panels are just beautiful! The sheer size of the drop-down desk door and the layout and abundance of interior cubbie space completes this special item! Overall, this is a beautiful Plantation Desk in gently used condition for its age. Perfect for use and enjoyment in your home or office. This is ready for immediate use. What an impression it will make to any setting! You can't go wrong with this one. THE TOP SECTION THIS DESK MEASURES: When opened folds down to a usable writing surface of 36"w x 27"d. This has felt lining on the inside surface. T is no longer a brass locking mechanism at the top of the desk door. I do not know when it was removed over the previous 180 years. THE LOWER DESK SECTION : 12.5"D x 37"W x 31" THE INSIDE COMPARTMENTS CONTAIN: 2 top drawers 17"W x 3"H 3 lower drawers 11"W x 2.5"H 12 square compartments 7 dividers and two open shelves MEASUREMENTS: HEIGHT: 64" Tall from floor to the top WIDTH: 37" Wide DEPTH: 24" WEIGHT : Approx. 100 pounds Overall, as previously stated and as visible in the photographs, this Secretary Desk has been well cared for over its approximate 180 years. As with all antiques, this item has some minor marks on it that are commensurate with its age. T are 4"x3" patterns of slight discoloration on the front of this desk door w t are thin remnants of tape that some "genius" had used to keep this desk closed when obviously transporting this piece. T is also some remains of tape on the upper part of the bottom drawer section (These show in the photos- and if you stand in the right angle to see them. Many of our friends in our shop have told us how to easily remove the glue residue but I usually like to leave cleaning/restoration to the new owner.) T are some minor nicks, and scratches including signs of minor glue repairs to some of the veneer that you really have to take close-up looks at to see. The desk really shows well as is and can only get better with a little soap & polish. Please recognize that in keeping with the age of this fine piece, they happen over the years from normal "wear and tear" and do not take away from its overall beauty or value. If we are made aware of changes or restorations made to the original piece- to the best of our abilities to determine this, we will share that knowledge with you.
