Up for auction is a late 1800's-to early 1900's, Montgomery Ward 8 String Mandolin. This is a very well made, strong mandolin, in fact, the interior is lined with a linen type material. Without much work, this mandolin will be a daily playing instrument for the buyer. It is a little bit of a collectors item as well, as Montgomery Ward was a mail order house which started in the late 1870's, and bought all the instruments they sold from the various instrument makers, here and abroad. The spruce top has a grain that is very even, and with consistent spacing, and is in great condition .There are not any issues with this mandolin other than the tailpiece which needs repair or replacement, and a set up with strings and bridge. The inner portion of the tailpiece where the strings attach broke off of the mounted piece. All parts are here, but I'm not sure if it can be soldered. The outside cover and all are fine. The tuning gears appear to work fine, all buttons are turning well. The rosewood back and spruce top are all strong without cracks. The rosewood fingerboard and frets are in good condition, and the neck appears very good also. The tortoise shell pick guard is solid, as are all of the inlays. This will be a very very good mandolin once set up.Please feel free to ask any questions. We are a 3rd generation luthier studio and are confident read more
