Highly collectible atlas map book! Mid to late 1800's. The Civil War! "ATLAS, TO ACCOMPANY THE OFFICIAL RECORDS OF THE UNION AND CONFEDERATE ARMIES, PLATES 136 - 175". The book is quite large, about 18 1/2" tall and about 15 1/2" wide. The plates are 29" by 18 1/4". You rarely see the book, only a map plate and t The book is missing some of the plates. I believe this book is missing plates 171 through 174, and the first few pages of the book, and some pages in the back of the book. I am not sure what exactly is missing in the pages, but the majority of the map plates remain. T are some tears on some of the map plates, but most of them, are clean. Very very minimal fading and staining on the pages, they are pretty clean, most have neither. The binding is not so good, the book cover has separated from the pages. The spine of the book has been taped at some point in time. The front and back cover have some staining, which did not go into the inside. On the back cover, at some point of time, someone painted the name; "Duane, to". I don't think that, what ever they were going to write, ever got finished. I don't know much about books, but this atlas, I was told, is very very sought after because of the map plates, and these plates are in wonderful shape. Dealers take the map plates out, and sell them individually, for over 100.00 each. read more
