Antique Mary Gregory Glass Perfume Bottle This auction is for a rare perfume or scent bottle from the Victorian Era attributed to artisan Mary Gregory. This piece is a fine example of the beautiful artwork of Mary Gregory. A well cut glass bottle decorated on both front and back in white enamel. The front features a lovely silhouette of a little girl in period dress frolicking about while holding floral garland. The reverse has a single sprig. This is the most beautiful Mary Gregory artwork that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. The intricate attention to detail is absolutely incredible! Please note that it is very difficult to capture the actual beauty and detail of this piece in photographs. In person, this piece is truly breathtaking. The stopper is beautifully faceted and the exterior of the neck is decorated with gold. The bottom is highly polished. The interior of the neck has a tiny painted mark which looks to be the number " 9." or the lower case letter " g.", perhaps for Gregory. The perfume bottle measures approximately 6 1/8" high including the stopper and 2 1/4" in diameter at the base. On the reverse, at the very bottom t is an approximate 1/2" flake to the glass. This is not at all obtrusive to the display of this magnificent piece. The stopper is free of any chips or cracks and t is no wear to the white enamel decoration. A spectacular Mary Gregory piece that is sure to be treasured by any collector. Mary Gregory glass is easily recognized by its simplicity and naïve charm. Mary Gregory was an American woman who lived from 1856-1908 and from about 1885 she and her sister worked for the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company through around the late 1880's. Mary Gregory glass is known for the painted and enameled decoration consisting of Victorian children in silhouette. These children could be flying kites, bowling hoops, blowing bubbles, skipping along, or simply playing, usually surrounded by grass, foliage or fern. They are dressed in typical Victorian "Sunday Best" clothing. (Internet Resource) In True Auction Format . . . Low Start Bid ~ No Reserve Happy Bidding & Good Luck!
