This lot consists of an old Masonic theme metal doorstop or bookend. It is beautifully cast in the shape of a set of twisting stairs (three, five and seven steps) leading up to a backdrop featuring the Masonic symbol of a "G" within a square and compass. Also included in the design are a hammer, trowel, columns. Back is flat at the top and hollow at the bottom. Heavy and substantial, weighs almost 4.5 pounds, approx 7 1/8" tall x 5 7/8" wide x 2 5/8" deep. Has been painted but now has considerable wear, aging, dirt, pitting, rust, patina, scratches, paint loss. One bottom corner (approx 1" x 1") has been broken off, but this item still sits solidly. Made of solid metal, probably cast iron. No manufacturer's marks.
