This tusk has been appraised as a "for export piece originating from China circa 1880-1900" by Patrica Graham PhD / . It's stunning. Equally detailed on both sides. It was purchased by my father in 1970's in Dallas, TX from Hartman Rare Art, Inc. /aboutus.html . My father was the General Manager of the Fairmont Hotel and Hartman had a gallery in the lobby for a number of years. The purchase price at that time was $8,500. The dimensions of the piece are 52"L x 16"H x 4.5"W. The base is made of carved oak and the whole piece (base and tusk) stands at 55"L x 21"H x 7.5"W. We've bought a few things on Ebay but this is the first sale, I would call it a big one (for us). Additional pictures are available upon request. As you can imagine this is a difficult piece to carefully pack and send thus shipping, handling and insurance fees are expensive. This is a pre ban ivory elephant tusk. The piece is extremely well preserved and is excellent condition given the age of the piece. After very close inspection t are seven to eight signs of slight repair. The small tower on the right hand side (the narrower, smaller end) looks to have been "re-attached" at some point, the oval "cloud like" rings and a few of the smaller branches. I can email you those pictures if you like. I've removed two pictures and posted two repair pictures. Included in read more
