Lovely antique 19th century Victorian Mauchline Ware wood sewing or thread box. Image of Edinburgh Castle from Princes Street on top of lid. Image is absolutely MINT. Front of box is stamped "Grown on the Lands of Abbotsford". Please notice the beautiful ornately engraved brass clasp on front of box. Its thumb hold projects out from the box. This is original to the box. Interior of box has its original maroon velvet lining which is in pristine condition. Well made solid brass hinge with 3 tiny screws firmly holding it in place. Bottom of box has its old green shagreen covering. Slight wear to shagreen from movement on a tabletop I imagine. Box measures 2 5/8" X 2 1/8" X 1 3/8" to the top of its slightly domed top. Patina is rich and warm. Finish is smooth and shiny with no damage or wear. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Auction must be paid for within 10 days. INSURANCE REQUIRED.
