Antique Mechanical Cast Iron Horse Race Bank 1871 For auction today from a wonderful estate collection in Upstate New York is this lovely John Hall Mechanical Horse Race Bank. This bank appears to have been well cared for by the family. It comes from the estate of a lifelong mechanical and still bank collector. The original cast iron bank has been left unrestored and appears to be complete except for the missing coin cover on the base. The date stamp on the top reads "Patented August 15, 1871". The original paint is largely intact, though the horse race name is missing. The original tin horses are quite nice though one is missing nearly half of its paint. All mechanical parts are accounted for, including the original pull string and ball. Several screws have been replaced as seen in the photos, and the top needs to be screwed down tighter for the bank to function normally (I have not done this as I did not want to risk damaging the bank). One of the gates has a crack in the iron as seen in the photo. Overall, this bank is in great vintage condition and is in need of very little repair. Included in the auction is a copy of the original patent application with schematics. This lovely antique mechanical bank is certainly the holy grail of mechanical banks, is impossible to find, and would make an excellent addition to any collection. read more
