Up for auction is an ORIGINAL Antique Bronze Budda (LOT 069) previously owned by the famous collector Baron Joseph "Sepy" de Bicske Dobronyi, founder of the Centro Arte Cubano in Havana, Cuba and Fellow of the Royal Society for Encouragement of the Arts. The Buddha is cast in Bronze with 24KT gold leaf circa 1767, this highly detailed style is originally from the Rattanakosin period in Thailand and it was acquired during one of the Baron's many travels. The Buddha dimensions are 40"H x 26.5"W x 17.5"D (Aprox.).

iconography:

The figure is portrayed in the seated position or 'Virasana' posture, with one leg atop the sole of the other foot. The left hand resting palm open on the lap and the right hand forming the 'Bhumisparsa' mudra, or Calling the Earth to Witness', gesture.

The Buddha image features a thick, very solid body with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The robe is worn diagonally and covers the left shoulder, with the end fold of the robe extended down to the navel. The torso when viewed from the side is exactly perpendicular to the ground and the right arm is slightly separated from the side of the body.

Remarks:

Museum quality. The Buddha is in excellent condition for its age with just wear to the gilding. Please view detailed photos for overall quality and minor imperfections of the item. This Buddha is extremely heavily cast. It is a classic and elaborate substantial sitting buddha. This item has been in Baron Joseph "Sepy" de Bicske Dobronyi collection for many years, and would make a wonderful addition for the avid collector of Southeast Asian Art.
