Antique 19thC Meriden Silverplate Pickle Castor Cranberry JarLILY PAD SHAPED HOLDER, ENAMEL JAR, LID & FORK Up for auction is an item I am selling for a friend. She is getting ready to move into an assisted living condo and we have been going through her things to downsize. This is a gorgeous silverplate pickle caster in the shape of a leaf complete with veining and stem. This lovely piece is stamped "Meriden B. Silver Co. #111". This very unusual pickle castor frame is one that I have seen only once in all my years of wandering through antique stores so I would say it's quite hard to find. The footed lily pad base has a wonderful shape, turned up point in front (this is the way itâe(tm)s suppose to be and not a flaw) wonderful leaf veining through out, nice realistic stem at the back, decorative handles at the base sides and a hook for your pickle fork. The plating is very good, bright and shiney with only minimal wear. This piece stands straight and has no broken or missing pieces. Measurements are 10 1⁄2" high, 5 1⁄2" wide between the handles, 7 3/4" long from stem to point and insert well is 3 1⁄2" in diameter. The elegant Victorian hand blown, hand painted enameled deep cranberry or ruby stain insert has what appears to be dogwood flowers as the main design and some type of small blue and white flower as accent.
