Antique Mexican Punched Tin Nicho Retablo Frame

I bought this wonderful 19th century nicho frame years ago, and must admit I am reluctant to part with it. Its condition is wonderful for its age; the four panels of reverse-painted glass are whole and perfect, and these and the glass front are beautiful greenish antique glass, full of bubbles and flow. The tin is painted green in places, and w it is bare it has a rich, dark patina. The corners are embellished with punched tin squares, and the wide and somewhat unusual silhouette looks great on the wall. The engraving inside is a particularly beautiful one, and the caption promises indulgence of forty days for anyone who recites the Creed with devotion in front of the image: "V. R. del Santo Cristo que se venera en la Iglesia de Santa Catalina Culetla, Doctrina de Miahuatlan, Obispado de Oaxaca. El Ilmo. Sr. Dr. D. Jose Gregorio Alonso de Ortigoza, Obispo de Oax. concedio 40 dias de indulgencia a los que ante esta Imagen recen un Credo con devocion." Lovely as it is, this frame would also look amazing with an antique retablo inside. The top of the back is open so that the image inside is easy to change.Dimensions are 13 3/4" high, 10 1/2" wide (with ears,) interior dimensions 8" h x 5 1/4" w x 5/8" deep. Winning US bidder, please add $12 for careful packing and insured shipping. International bidders please email seller for cost of shipping to your address. I am always happy to combine shipping to save you money. Please check my other auctions for more treasures from Mexico. Thanks for looking!
