Antique Mexican Spanish Colonial School 19th. Century Polychrome Santo Figure This antique Santos is in good condition, showing normal signs of age and wear. The Santos measures approximately 13 1/2 inches tall without base (34cm.) and is mounted on a 1 1/2 inch tall (4cm) x 9 1/2 inches long (24.5cm) x 7 3/4 inches deep base (20cm). The figure is carved wood with polychrome paint decorated with signs of gold gilt along the edge of the collar and robe. The piece is mounted on a green painted wooden base which shows areas of paint loss, presumably from other figures such as attendants or the Holy Family. The original hands have been replaced at some point, and the Santos shows normal paint loss, stress cracks, and deterioration of the canvas robe. An absolutely beautiful example of 19th. Century artistry in both form and detail. If you have any questions or would like additional photographs please send requests via email and I will be happy to forward those to you promptly.
