ANTIQUE PHOTO ALBUM MID 1850'S EMBOSSSED LEATHER WITH GOLD GILDING 34 CABINET PHOTOS 11 TINTYPES This auction is for an antique photo album from the mid 1850's. The album measures 5 1/2" wide X 6 1/2" tall X 2 1/2" thick. The exterior is deeply embossed leather with gold gilding. Part of the brass hasp is missing so the album will not latch. T are 24 double sided pages containing 34 cabinet portraits and 11 tintypes. The portraits are of people of all ages. T are 4 images that are identified are one tintype of Benjamin B. Burns (1815 -1870) and one tintype of his wife Hannah (1825-1885) (these images are the first two in the album and were identified in other family materials) , one cabinet photo of Cora Alice (Wilson) Draper (1859-????) of Wayland , Massachusetts identified by an undated obituary tucked in with her picture and one cabinet photo of Albert Barton Paine (1858-1902) of Madison , Maine also identified by an obituary. The pictures are in very good condition, a couple of the tintypes are a little dark. The outside of the album is in very good condition showing some scuffing and wear to the leather consistent with its age. The album corners also show scuffing and wear. The exterior covers of the album are very thick. The interior pages of the album are brittle, have some age toning and some have tears w the pictures were inserted into the pages. The album pages are all connected to each other and to the front of the album. The connecting paper between the last page of the album and the inside back cover is torn allowing the leather spine and back cover to pull away from the album pages (see photo). As a result, t is a very tiny hole in the leather of the spine above the word " Album " and a very small split in the leather hinge area. I am reasonably sure that this part of the album could be repaired with out too much trouble by the new owner if they wanted. Overall, I consider the album and its contents to be in very good condition. Buyer pays priority flat rate shipping and insurance. Payment through Paypal preferred. Payment must be received within 7 days of the close of auction. Seller is not responsible for items lost or damaged by the USPS.
