Antique Milk Glass "Old Abe" Figural Eagle Mustard Jar This familiar but elusive two-piece mustard container has been dubbed "Old Abe Jar" by collectors. According to Ferson's "Yesterdays Milk Glass Today" (F-568) the eagle referred to as Old Abe was allegedly a mascot for a Wisconsin infantry company during the Civil War. This milk glass piece has been associated with the Centennial Era, which would put production around the mid-1870s. Produced by the Central Supply Company of Wellsburg, West Virginia, this example is in very good condition with no damage or repairs. Traces of the original red cold paint are still visible on the eagle's face. Measuring 6½" tall, the eagle wears a shoulder banner proclaiming E PLURIBUS UNUN and a lower center blank shield. This is a tremendous piece to add to any milk glass, covered animal dish or bottle collector's shelf! Please e-mail us with any questions you might have prior to placing your bid.
