Own a piece of history ...

You are bidding on a Mills Extra Bell Slot Machine shown in this ad. This Slot Machine is from the 40s era, and may have been a recasted slot machine using an older Mills mechanism. From research we have done, we have also found this exact style Mills Slot Machine called an Aitkens . We are not experts. Although this slot machine is not new, this slot machine appears to us to be in excellent condition for its vintage age -- but -- we do know that you know what you are looking for, so please base your bids on what you see pictured.

This slot machine seems to function fine from our test pulls (as you can see in the videos).

This vintage Mills Slot Machine is mounted on the Oak Wood panel you see in the pictures:

base is 15 inches front to back (the oak mounted base you see in the photos) base is 16 inches left to right ( the oak mounted base you see in the photos) height is 25 inches from the bottom of the base to the top edge of the coin slot

The Slot Machine is mounted on the Oak Panel, which sits on top of the oak-finished wood stand you see in the photos. The stand is not the original and is separate (but stand shown is included in this auction), so you could set the slot machine on another stand, or use the included beautiful wood stand. The slot machine as shown sits on top of the stand included, and is secured with two screws in the back securing the base of the slot machine to the top of the stand. As such, t are two screw holes in the top of the stand, and some scratches in the wood on the top of the stand, seen only when the slot machine is not on the stand (holes and scratches are not seen when slot machine is on the stand, as that is from w the slot machine secures to the stand :).

The Stand: The wood stand has a glass front door (see photos), and the stand is 43 and 1/4 inches tall. The top of the stand is 16 1/2 inches front to back, and 17 1/2 inches left to right. 19 inches front to 'back (outside edge of foot' to 'outside edge of foot). 20 inches left outside edge of foot to right outside edge of foot. The foot is 5 inches tall. The opening inside the cabinet door is 11 inches wide by 18 inches tall.

We have noted this exact style Mills slot machine are available in a variety of exterior colors. The reason we surmise this is -- in our limited research -- after the war (WWII), t was a shortage of slot machines -- and a large demand for remodeling and updating slot developed.

So, many older Mills mechanisms (used in the late 30s and early 40s) were interchangeable in the world of slot machines, and, as such -- were able to be recast. This recasting period spurred a large array of colors of the earlier mechanisms when they were recased.

In the post-war resurgence from the end of 1945 through 1950 , the approximate sales for Mills were 110,000 bell machines. The 1951 Johnson Act virtually eliminated slot machine sales in nearly all states, pushing slots machine sales potential down to the lowest in the industry's history.

Slot Machines and their makers have a very interesting history. The winner of this auction will receive two incredible books with this Mills Slot Machine.

This best-selling book on coin-operated machines has 256 pages with 630 photographs - 504 in full color. T is mathematics, mechanisms, advertisements,...
