Antique Miniature Flat Top Steamer Trunk Childs Doll I purchased this Vintage Miniature Flat Top Steamer Trunk a few years ago at a local Raleigh, NC Estate Sale. I purchased it from the daughter of the woman who it had belonged to and she said it may have originally came down from the New York city area as the family had migrated from that area to North Carolina sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I purchased it because my sister is a doll collector and she was always looking for unusual items in which to display her little friends. She specifically wanted the more desirable flat top trunk rather than a round top version so that it could be stacked or used as a miniature coffee table or side table. My sister has since given up housekeeping and relocated to a small apartment and it was necessary to scale back on her doll collection and has limited space to display her items so I am offering this up for auction today with No Reserve. The trunk measures about 16" wide by 9" deep and is about 9" tall. In my estimation it is in very good original vintage condition and displays nicely just as it is. All you might do is wipe it off with a little cleaning solution of some kind. You could also spray it with a clear coat of some type of spray enamel or something like that if you want a more restored look to it. The inside is equally as nice showing appropriate age and use. It is not an item that I think should need to, or even want to, be completely restored as you really lose much of its character and charm in doing that. There is one tack missing from the band on the right side of the lid which has caused the band to bow out slightly but that should be an easy fix with the insertion of an appropriate replacement nail or tack. This is a previously owned antique item and I have not attempted to clean it up or enhance its appearance any way. It has been photographed in exactly the same condition in which it was found. I believe that decisions regarding the cleaning of collectable items and the methods used to obtain the desired results are best left up to the new owners. I am therefore offering this item in exactly the same condition in which it was found. Along with my detailed description I have provided ample close-up images to allow you to decide for yourself how you want to judge the actual condition and how much you are willing to bid.
