Antique - Early 19th Century MINIATURE WAX SCULPTURE Genuine Antique Wax Silhouette of Marie Louise of Austria Second Empress of France, Napoleon's Wife This is an authentic, small relief shoulder bust - wax silhoutte - hand painted portrait from the early 19th century Marie Louise of Austria was born Dec 12, 1791- Dec 17, 1847. The second Empress of the French & Napoleon Bonaparte wife. She was also the grandniece of Marie Antoinette and the Mother of Napoleon II, King of Rome. She was the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, Francis I of Austria and his second wife, Maria Tsa of the Two Sicilies. Her parents insisted that she be tutored in different languages, tfore, besides speaking in her native German, she was fluent in French, Italian, Latin, Spanish & English. In 1810, the 18 year old archduchess married French Emperor Napoleon which pleased her father as it strengthen ties between the Austrian and French Empires. It also legitimized Napoleon's Empire as she was a member of the House of Hasburg, one of the oldest ruling families in Europe and gave him a son. In 1811, Marie Louise gave birth to Napoleon Francois Joseph Charles Bonaparte, King of Rome and Duke of Reichstadt. In 1814, she became the ruler of Parma which she excelled in, introducing various reforms and working very diligently to benefit her subjects lives. After Bonaparte's exile to Elba and death in 1821, Marie Louise married Adam Albert Von Neipperg and had 3 children. After his death in 1829 she again married, this time Charles-Rene, Count of Bombelles in 1834. She raised her children and ruled Parma until her death in 1847. This has the natural age that you would expect of an item from the early 19th century. Please examine the many photos that have been provided. They will give you some idea on condition and value. All items are offered "as discovered." This is an authentic antique wax silhoutte. Frame size is ~ 5" by 6" The wax portrait size is ~3" in height. Condition report: This is an authentic early 19th century, hand painted wax portrait in its original frame. The frame has minor wear, especially around the corners. Their is a hairline crack to the black back glass piece, which the wax portrait is mounted on, and the front glass (your local conservator should be able to handily replace the glass back, if you deem this necessary.) The wax portrait is in very good condition : the colors are bright, not faded. No damage to the wax portrait, except for extremely slight loss, ~1/32" - on Marie Louise's ear lobe - you will need a magnifing glass to see the imperfection. This antique wax miniature of Marie Louise will make a spectacular addition - and function as quite a conversation piece to any wax miniature collection.
