ANTIQUE MORIYAMA MORI-MACHI COFFEE / TEA SET ~ 23 pieces ~ HAND PAINTED IN JAPAN This is a 23 piece antique Moriyama Mori-Machi fine Japanese porcelain - eggshell China coffee / tea set. I think this is dated from the 1920’s but I’m not positive. This lovely eggshell china is pale yellow against the creamy white base with lavish hand painted raised gold pattern of gorgeous flowers and scrolls on this very old set. The pieces are marked with the Moriyama Mori-Machi mark. · POT with lid –7” tall +/- · CREAMER · SUGAR BOWL with lid · 6 CUPS · 6 SAUCERS · 6 DESSERT PLATES – 7 ½” +/- This set is in excellent condition with only slight gold loss. You can tell from the pictures that the wear is so minor that it does not detract from the beauty of the pieces. One cup has thin hairline spider mark in the bottom. It does not appear to leak. I have attempted to show this in the last picture.Moriyama Pottery was located in Mori-Machi in Shizuoka Prefecture . Moriyama Pottery was established in 1911 by Hidekichi Nakamura who was taught pottery making by Seison Suzuki. There are currently four studios continuing the Moriyama tradition in and around Mori-machi and they are Seison, Seizon, Nakamura and Tame. There seems to be two primary stamps: one appears to be a crown with a wreath of leaves similar to the wreath found on the Noritake stamp. This stamp is marked “Moriyama Hand Paint Japan .” The other is a bouquet of flowers and is marked “Moriyama Made in Japan .” The MM MARK, stands for 'Moriyama Morimachi' and has been referenced to the Moriyama Factory at Morimachi Shizuoka Prefecture Japan .
