I just took on a fairly large -- but exciting undertaking. Over the next couple of weeks I will be selling a collection of 50 - 60 Native American Indian vintage/antique items for an elderly gentleman. This individual has collected broadly and well, and has decided to part with his Indian collection at this time. The final photo shows you just some of the items that will be auctioned. He has collected throughout the country for 40+ years, and has some very fine pieces -- in condition, quality and diversity. I queried him to gather as much information as I could on each item. I'm not an expert in Native American items, though I've done some research on his. I'll only be able to list so many auctions at a time, so please don't email me with requests concerning pieces that don't relate to this particular auction. All items will be listed, and -- in fairness to all browsers/bidders -- all auctions will run the full 7 days. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THESE AND THE OTHER PIECES I'LL LATER LIST, IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO PUT MY AUCTIONS ON YOUR LIST. I will start all the auctions at $9.99 with NO RESERVE , just as I always have. I only ask that you consider fair market value when bidding. My client can use the funds, and it's a bit difficult for him to part with this particular collection. This auction is for the sweetgrass basket you see in the photos -- and to my eye, this is one of the most charming pieces in the collection. This is a miniature coiled sweetgrass basket , measuring only 2 1/2" high and approx. 3 1/4" in diameter. Think of the craftsmanship this immensely intricate little piece took! The coils of sweetgrass are minute, as is are the strands of organic plant material (it is not string or thread) that binds them together. And the added subtle design work is the icing on the cake. The lid is woven so that the rawhide handle can pass through two small holes -- and the lid moves up and down the rawhide beautifully. T also is a small coil of sweetgrass on the bottom of the lid to hold it in place. The piece was clearly decorated with natural red and brown dyes -- they've faded on the baskets side and bottom, but are still virtually intact in the interior of the basket. Again -- this piece to me is just exquisite and charming -- how anyone every managed such intricacy is amazing. And one of the best assets -- I cannot find one area w t is even a minute amount of damage or repair! More Native American Indian items to come -- so again, be sure to mark my auctions if you're interested. Thanks for looking, have a great week.
