I have owned this item for about 30 years, about 21 years ago I got married. Well the new wife didn't like my decorating sense, so do to the basement the binnacle went. Every year for the past 20 years I have promised her I was going to sell it, in fact this binnacle is the reason I opened my Ebay account, well now I have run out of excuses to stave the sale off. What we have is the most complete binnacle I have ever seen, the only thing missing is the outer most gimmel ring, I have inserted some copper pipe to hold the compass up. Yes it is lighted, and yes it was rewired. The mahogany is perfect the finish is in excellent condition. The pictures don't do it justice, I hung a sheet behind it so you don't see all the other stuff I should sell on Ebay as well. Some day I"m going to paint that basement floor too. In one of the pictures the wood finish has a horizontal mark, well that is brass polish, and it is gone now. Now for the history, inside the door of the binnacle is a board with some calibration marks. This also contains the two names the ship was commisioned under the first is the USS Selinur, the second was the USS Keystone State. I have provided a link to Wikipedia /wiki/USS_Selinur#External_links with all the info and pictures of the ship. Now as far as shipping, this item is heavy, my bathroom scale says 150lbs and it never lies except when I get on it, now that is the weight without any packaging. You can come and pick it up if you wish. If you want it shipped I'll help you as much as possible, I have a van and could take to a shipping location at no cost if it was not too far, the total shipping charge to include any packaging will be paid by the buyer. If you want to pick it up , the binnacle can be take partially apart, assembled it is approximately 52 inches high, 36 inches wide (ball to ball) and 20 inches front to back. Btw, some one said the iron balls should be painted red and green, I do see some green paint through a scratch on one ball. but I am leaving it as it is after 30 years I leave it to you to change the color. Well this is your chance to own a piece of Naval history, I don't see many of these around in private hands, they go to resturants and then after they bust them all up, I guess to the scrap yard, so save this one, I did for 30 years now it is your turn. The reserve price is low considering what we have If it doesn't sell on Ebay I am going to pitch it to the local resturants in the Philly area.
