Beautiful faceted paperweight made by New England Glass Company during the mid-19th century. The weight features a lovely nosegay of three millefirori flowers with four green leaves and a stem. The nosegay is encircled by a complex millefiori border garland composed of multicolored pairs of tubular canes. The entire arrangement is superimposed over a double swirl latticinio cushion. The weight has one top facet, and a double row of six and seven side facets. The base is concave polished glass. The weight is approximately 2-1/4" tall. It is 2-7/8" in diameter at its widest point and tapers to a concave base that is 1-3/4" in diameter. It weighs 1 lb., 1 oz. T are two small chips along the edges of two of the upper side facets. These are shown, as best I can photograph them, in the fourth and fifth photos. They are greatly enlarged in the photos but are hardly noticeable when holding the weight in the hand. T are also two small and superficial scratches on the top facet. They are too faint to photograph effectively. T are no other flaws, chips or scratches that I can detect. The weight is in remarkably fine condition for an object of its age. The New England Glass Company was America's most accomplished glassworks during the 19th century. The company made paperweights from approximately 1850 to 1880. The output was small compared to the French factories, and few weights of this quality ever appear on the market. This truly is a great weight and will be recognized as such by serious collectors of vintage American paperweights.
