THIS AUCTION IS FOR AN ANTIQUE CORNET CALLED THE "NEW YORK WONDER" BY C.G. CONN OF ELKHART, INDIANA AND NEW YORK CITY.
I will be the first to admit that I usually sell jewelry, and know little to nothing about cornets, but this one is really beautiful--it's all hand etched and if it were polished, it would be just amazing. I was asked to sell this cornet that was purchased through an estate, and did a little bit of research on it to find that these are quite rare and collectible.
It comes in its original case, which is all velvet on the bottom w the instrument sits, and has a part that lifts up to house the set of "tools" which includes the things you see in the fourth photo. The yellow satin on the right side of the inside of the top is torn in one spot, but other than that, the case closes tightly (no key, though). T's a part on the outside w you can slip your music sheets, and also a black dust bag for the cornet.
It's in nice condition, but for those two tiny dents shown in the last photo. The second pipe has some numbers on it, probably a serial number, which are 68512--then at the bottom of that pipe, it says "Pat. June 15, 1886 ."
I'm not sure what else you would need to know--obviously I don't play it and don't know how it would sound. Please ask any questions and I'll try to answer them.
