This is a wonderful antique Nippon handpainted game bird set with raised gilt design consisting of a platter, 6 plates and a sauce dish. All pieces have transfer scenes of different types of game. A similar set sold at auction in Cedar Falls, IA., Jackson's International Auctioneers, on August 13, 2005 for over $2,800.00.
The platter measures 17 1/8" by 10 7/8." The only flaw in this set is on the platter at the bottom rim straight down from the bird's chest. It appears to have been repaired. You have to be looking for this to see it. I have gotten in close with my camera and you can see an area with 3 little beads missing and just below that to the right is a small dark spot. Looking at it with a magnifying glass, it looks like t are some flecks of gilt on the dark spot, so may have happened when being repaired. Also on the rim to the right of the repaired spot, is a tiny white spot, ? fleck of paint loss. It is the size of a pinhead. I could not see any other flaws on any of the other pieces. They look to be in excellent condition. The plates measure 8 5/8" except for one. The one that has the same scene as the platter is 8 3/4." The sauce dish is 5 5/8" in diameter and is 1 3/8" deep. All have the blue Nippon mark. Any white spots you see on the pieces are reflections from light and not chips. T are no chips or cracks. This is a beautiful set. Whoever buys it will love it. Feel free to ask questions. Insurance is required for shipping which will be by Priority Mail. NO personal checks please. International buyers must use PayPal and are responsible for any duties/tariffs that may apply. Thanks for looking.
