I just recently purchased a large lot at an old estate w this wonderful antique rug was included. The prior owner of this rug brought it over from Norway when she was 17 years old in 1929, just after she was married. Yes, she is 96 years young and well known in my small town w she has been for the last 79. years. The rug used to be her mother's, and her son declined it when it was offered to him. I'm just telling you what I was told. I was told that it is completely needle woven by hand. I will leave that for you to judge. I have taken very close pictures so that you can see the detail both on th front and back of the rug. The rug has a straight seam down it's middle. It is uncertain why their is a seam through the middle. It is clear that the top and bottom edges are hand sewn. The colors in this rug are very beautiful and I really worked hard to give you some kind idea just how. In my opinion, the colors resemble field flowers. The treads are made of wool while the background material is a soft thick canvas-like material. The movement of the rug is very fluid, but not so much that it might be mistaken for a blanket. It certainly could be laid over the the back of a couch though, or hung up on a wall like a tapestry! You will find that the colors are still very nice and vibrant. Red, Indigo, Yellow-Orange, Berry Purple, and Moss-like Green. The entire rug is in very good condition. T are no holes, rips or tears of any kind. T are a few places w threads stick out, but that is just ending threads, not unravelling. They are very secure. It measures at 51 inches by 67 inches. As I said before, it does come from an old and very well respected estate. It really is very beautiful. Please know that the last bid is superior and final. T are no returns, so please bid wisely.
