Beautiful old map case, constructed of solid heavy American oak. Maps are signed by W. & A.K. Johnston Ltd. dated 1910, 1911
Measuring approximately 45.5" x 16" x 4". This old case is in really nice condition . I am a retired decorator by trade, and I used this case in a decorator's showcase home in a den decorated in Ralph Lauren, mixed with great antiques like this one. I hung this behind large mission oak desk with riding boots at the side, this map case just "made the room." The paneled front drops down to expose the maps. The original hangers are still on the backside to hang on a wall. Still has the original lock and key that work nicely. Any wear on this lovely case is commensurate with age, it is just as it should be. It has 8 maps, with little brass embossed tags attached to each with the area the map depicts. There are creases, small tears and tiny holes in the map sections to be expected. The maps are all interesting, and colorful, and I think are in amazing condition for the age and use they must have seen over the years. The paper is age dirty, as to be expected with something about 100 years old. It takes a bit of patience and a gentle touch to roll the maps back up. The eight brass embossed map tags with the corresponding maps are as follows: S. A, N.A , W.Hem , E.Hem Africa , Asia, US , Europe Will ship within the lower 48 US states for 44 dollars insured, if you are far west coast, I will pick up the balance of the shipping.
