Being offered is a great oil on heavy paper of a Lady with Book, C. 1865.(See pictures) It is NOT a painted photograph, but ALL original. The work on the face, lace headpiece, blouse, & hands is outstanding, with wonderful details.(See pictures) The talented artist has used a red cover on the table to highlight the green covered book with gilt edges.(See pictures) The corner of the chair with blue stuffing is another highlight adding to the beauty of the painting. The sight size is 5 3/8" x 7 1/2". It is in perfect condition. The period frame of wood with gold edging is 12" x 14".(See pictures) It is 2" deep. The gold inner ring shows the typical splits of a frame which is around 150 years old. Rest of frame is like new.(See pictures) It is unsigned, which is a shame because the artist was so very talented. I believe the book may be used to portray the sitter as a teacher. My photos can't do justice to the quality of this gem. Who was she? Who was the artist? We'll never know, but I do know the work of this artist is as good as it gets. A true gem, ready to hang in that special place in your collection.
