A SUN PURPLE OIL LAMP WITH CHIMNEY IN AN ELLA VARIANT PATTERN.
The Oil Lamp with Glass Chimney measures 18 1/2'' in height and 9 1/2" in height to the top of the collar. The font measures approximately 5 1/4'' in diameter with a base diameter is 5 1/2''. It has a metal burner with wick. The thumbwheel turns freely and t are no identification marks. The glass chimney measures 8 1/2'' in height with a base diameter of approximately 2 3/4''. It has a brass insert collar with the words Patent Applied For embossed on the top of the glass near the insert. The outside of the glass has 16 oval designs around it. It has two distinct mold lines. The pattern around the fount consists of an elongated 8 sided teardrop pattern. These vertical panels continue down through the stem and onto the arched base. I am calling this an Ella Variant because the stem is slightly different than the lamp shown in Thuro's Oil Lamps of North America. The stem is hollow approximately 1 1/2'' toward the base. This lamp dates to 1910. T are no chips or cracks. I have never seen an oil lamp that has turned such a beautiful sun purple color.
