Head of Windermere by W T LONGMIRE - dated 1886 A lovely oil painting of Windermere, with views over to the Langdale Pikes by W T Longmire (1841-1914). I bought this painting at auction in the early 90's, and looks like it has had a new canvas support to the back prior to that. The image size is approx 17 1/2 x 10 inches. Longmire was a much respected and collected artist who specialised in Lake District views, and his paintings have sold for many £hundreds at major auction houses. The highest estimate I have found for his work was £800-1200 by Christies for a pair of his watercolours.(I couldnt find a date for that estimate). .
