Up for auction is a very nice looking, old , antique Japanese colored woodblock wood block print on thin paper by the artist Hiroshige (19th/20th Century Japanese Artist) We are not sure which Hiroshige this is t are three listed artists by that name that we could find and we don't know which artists work that this is. The framing on this piece looks like it is probably prior to World War II we moved one of the old nails on the back and t was rust on the cardboard back so it looks like it had been in the same position for quite some time. We are guessing that this piece is probably from the 1930s or earlier. We are not familiar with the dating marks to give an exact age. The subject matter of this work is what looks like Villagers caught in a rain storm. This piece is being sold framed and in an old matte.. The work measures by sight 8 5/8 inches high by 13 1/16 of an inch across and we don't know how big the margins are underneath. The piece has several chop marks and prints marks but we can not read them. On the back written in blue ball point pen is what says Hiroshige original wood block print value about $100.00 unframed. It looks like it was written on t many years ago. The backing paper is torn but it does not affect the value of the work in any way. For the print itself. T is the faintest of matte stain about 1/16 of an inch wide around the entire perimeter of the print. T is some faint light striking of the paper and colors so the paper is not bright white but the colors have held up pretty well and are quite defined. The old matte is light toned but overall OK shape the frame has bit of wood chips missing all around the edges. Hiroshige prints can bring good prices at auction. This is a real woodblock and not a lithographic work or a photomechanical reproduction. Shipping is $10.95 in the lower 48 United States. Illinois residents please add 7.75% for state sales tax.
