FINE OLD PARIS BONE CHINA PORCELAIN FOOTED DISH C.1850; ROCOCO REVIVAL WITH CHERRIES AND GILT Of the finest style with ruby red cherries, ruby and gilt border with flowers (roses, violets etc) on the obverse. 3-3/4 inches high, 6 inches in diameter. Condition is exemplary with no nicks, chips or cracks and just minor wear to gilt. Retailer's backstamp "Kerr China Hall Philadelphia" No maker's mark which is usual for Old Paris porcelain Old Paris Porcelain, or Vieux Paris Porcelain in French, refers not to a single manufacturer, but to some thirty-seven firms based within the City of Paris between the mid 1700's until around 1870 . No porcelain mark ever came to be synonymous with Old Paris china and around 70% of the production had no marks at all. The Old Paris artisans produced magnificently decorated work and Old Paris porcelain is among the finest European porcelain. The Rococo Revival style came to America around 1840 and remained dominant throughout the 1860s. This style was referred to as "Louis XIV style" and was considered elegantly French.
