WOW, PICTURE THIS ON DISPLAY JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!!
Up for your consideration is a cutter style one horse open sleigh. This sleigh has the original paint . T is refurbished upholstery on the seat. The paint shows wear that I would consider consistent with the age of the piece (some flaking and worn spots). I believe this piece is late 1800's to early 1900's. The color is a darker green with red/maroon upholstery. T are two eagle ornaments on either side of the front roll. I could not find a makers mark. The sleigh has a metal foot step on either side so the riders could get in easily. As you can see in the photo the front roll/curve has two areas that are cracked. Each crack runs horizontal across the front. This could be easily refurbished but to me this adds character. I believe this sleigh is structurally solid but I might recommend some light refurbishing if you actually want to use it. The sleigh will come with the wooden pulls that mount to the front and then to the horse. These show wear and are somewhat fragile although they can be handled and moved without any concern. T are 3 decorative wood dowels on each side of the carriage part. One does have a part missing. All paint is original. Dark green carriage and red on the base/runners. Since I do not know much about these sleighs, I took several pictures for the bidders. If you have any questions please ask prior to bidding. This item is available for local pick up in Covington Indiana. We are located 50 minutes west of Indianapolis, 120 miles southeast of Chicago, and 40 minutes east of Champaign Illinois. I am happy to do a delivery within 150 miles for a charge of $125.00 I just wanted to add that when I looked closely at the runners I noticed that on the right runner (if you are sitting in the carriage) has two areas w it appears that a replacement section was added/filled in. MY guess is that over time these two areas may have rotted through and a section was added to maintain the support. Another curious bidder has asked whether or not t is any rot on the floor. ANSWER: From what I can see t is nothing that I would consider rot but t are areas w the wood has started to crack slightly but nothing that would be a serious concern to me. We have had people up on the carriage and it appears to hold up just fine. I will note that I personally would not hook this to a horse and snap the reigns without some minor refurbishing such as an extra support underneath but as I noted earlier I am not an expert on these sleighs.
