DATED ANTIQUE 'AMERICAN OPTICAL' OPTOMETRY TRIAL LENS FRAME

The frame is from an antique 'AMERICAN OPTICAL CO' optometrist set. T are no maker markings or insignias on this piece and based on the dated engravings it is from 1896.
T are several dates engraved on this piece. When viewing the piece from the back, t is an engraving on the right lens slot that reads "PAT. JUNE 25. 96". The left lens slot engraving reads "PAT NOV. 6. 96". The temples (ear pieces) also display dated engravings and they read "PAT. APR. 30. 95".
The main sections of the frame are made of a silver colored metal. It may be nickel or nickel plated but t are no engravings to indicate metal content. The eye slots have ivory colored overlays and they are most likely celluloid or bakelite.
The frame is in exceptional antique condition with minimal discoloration. T is some rust on the nasal bridge rest section and I have not attempted to remove it.
The turn mechanism that adjusts the vertical postion of the nasal bridge piece is operational, the turn mechanism that adjusts the horizontal position of the nasal bridge piece is tight and does not turn. This may be remedied with some steel wool to remove the rusted areas but I will... read more
