This quilt is a little bit of a puzzle for me. At first I thought that the star pieces are very old--1880's or even earlier. BUT t are some wonderful reproduction fabrics out t and I would not be able to tell the difference... The yellow and red calico print is identical to another print on quilt I had that was from the 1860's. Likewise t are lots of cinnamon pinks, and civil war blues. T is a nice unwashed texture to these pieces so I think I can confidently say that these antique pieces were machine pieced with 50's (1950's that is!) pink cotton fabric.. The quilt is summerweight, at first I thought it had no batting but I can feel it has clumped mainly in the pink squares. The batting is cotton. The quilt has an 6" rosebud print border on the two long sides that I think must have been added to make the quilt bigger. If I could sew I would remove it or trim it down to a half inch binding. The quilt mearsures 92" from foot to head. Width wise it measures 54" across and then t is 6 inches of rosebud print on each of the sides so the total width is 66". The quilt is shown on a full bed and it fits it nicely. The quilt is in excellent, sturdy condition-- no fraying of any of the star pieces and no wear. T is an small amount of puckering around some of the pink quilted areas even though the stitching is small and neat at 7 spi. T is a small amount of light staining on the back, quarter sized but faint. Two eraser head sized faint spots on the front, too light to photograph, you will have to search to find them.. All the materials are cotton. Backing is an off white cotton. The top and bottom have a half inch white cotton binding, no wear to the edges. The diamond star pieces are small and completely intact, I did not see any loose seams or any wear. Its a cute coverlet, nice and colorful and perfect for warm nights.
