COLLECTOR QUALITY ANTIQUE YOMUD TURKOMAN ASMALYK CAMEL WEDDING TRAPPING. Circa: 1875-95. Exact size, not including the original fringed tassel embellishments: 2'-4" x 3'-9" (71 x 114 cm). Asmalyks were originally woven in pairs to be used as flank hangings on the lead camel carrying the young bride during her wedding procession, this antique Yomud asmalyk comes fresh to the market in MINT original condition and possesses 100% natural, plant-dervied dyes. Turkmen tribal peoples cherished their dowry weavings and the present specimen has survived time in an impeccable state of preservation including most of the original fringe tassels and braided side strap hangers. After the wedding, the newlyweds would decorate the interior of their new yurt home with the trappings used during their bethrothal ceremony.
