Striking full color example of Willem Blaeu's map of the Turkish Empire in very good condition. I bought this map at L'Orientaliste cartography gallery in Cairo, Egypt in 1988 and had it professionally framed in Chicago. Certificate included. This map from the Blaeu atlas dates from around 1640 and was printed in Amsterdam during the zenith of the Dutch Golden Age when the city was the mercantile and seafaring center of the world. The topography extends from Sicily and Italy in the West to the Black & Caspian Seas in the North and the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea and Saudi Arabia peninsula in the South. It also shows Egypt and Persia. Centered on Jerusalem . The image area measures 20 x 16 inches, the overall frame measures 28 x 24 inches. The reverse of the frame shows original text.
