It is unsigned, unless it is signed under the frame. It is in FAIR/GOOD condition, was a bit dirty when I first bought it...and it is a bit loose on it's stretcher. It has a hole about half the size of an eraser in the top middle. I see two patches from the back of old restorations, but I cannot see them very well from the front..so they are fine. The frame is in poor condition..but is original. The back tag..t are two reads, " Horse Creek 1885 ", the one on the top reads, " Horse Creek, Oil City, PA ". A nice young man who worked at the antique mall w I bought this, handed me a tag when I left with more info that had fallen off the painting. It reads , " Dark Painting in Gilt Frame- Painted by Mrs. Young ( Bruce young's Grandmother, Horse Creek, near Titusville, Pa ,( w oil was discovered ) , painted in 1885. " I Googled Horse Creek, Oil City Pa. and it appears it is a small town in NW Pennsylvania that has a rich and fascinating history of an oil boom of the 1860's in the US and this was the hub of the oil industry back then. Just love to have something like that about a piece of art ! Ok, down to the bare facts, measures 28 x almost 18 ins. read more
