ANTIQUE ORIGINAL LARGE 1800s OIL PORTRAIT GILT FRAME This original oil portrait was purchased in Nantucket Rhode Island over 48 years ago. This portrait could very well be one of a ships Sea Captain from the island of Nantucket. It was very popular at that time as it was a great seaport. His attire was in keeping with clothing in the early 1800's. The portrait was painted in oil on canvas it was painted by a talented portrait artist. I looked for the artists signature could not find it, perhaps you can. Portrait is life size 21" x 26". This is the original large gold gilt oval with gesso over wood frame that measures 34" x 29". The gesso on this frame needs repair. The portrait is in very good condition and has the usual crackling for a painting of age, it does not affect the painting in any way and it enhances the aging of the portrait. This is guaranteed old 19th century.
