You are bidding on one of these ornamental iron garden gates (two available), which date to the turn of the century. Each gate weighs 56 pounds, measures 36 inches wide, 40 inches tall to the center of the top rail, and 48 inches to the top of the central finial. They are in excellent condition with minimal rust and no losses. Complete with mounting hardware.The shield on each gate (see photo) reads, “THE STEWART IRON WORKS, CINCINNATI, OH - BILLS BROS. AGENTS, DENVER COLO".Richard C. & Wallace A. Stewart founded the Stewart Iron Works company in 1886. Billed at the turn of the century as the "World's Largest Fencemaker", gates, railings, fitments and furnishings made by Stewart grace fine homes, gardens and parks in the United States and abroad. As marked, these gates were distributed by Bills Brothers of Denver, CO, listed as a marble, granite, iron and wire fence supplier in the 37 th Annual Volume of the Colorado Business Directory (The Gazetteer Publishing Co., 1911).
