Antique Ox-Bone Mariners Scrimshaw Cane

An ox-bone tooth handled cane. Inscribed

W.Stott – Master – Ship Northern Light Of Westport – Mass – May 1855. Etched on the other face a clipper or whaling ship under full sail. A laurel leaf garland completes the handle. The hollow end has been blanked off with matching ox-bone cap set directly on a slim hardwood cane ending with a bi-metal ferrule.

Not too much research carried out. I did find a clipper Northern Light launched Boston , Mass. Sept 1851 which held the record for San Francisco to Boston in 1853 – 76 days 6 hours.
