13 1/8" Tall x 5 1/2" Wide 4" Deep What a great example of a New England wall box, circa 1820-1850, the piece is all hand constructed and carved. The piece is a two-shelved example that would have originally been used in a country home for a variety of purposes. A small wall box such as this could have been used to hold various items that might otherwise be subject to household and domestic pests (salt, tallow candles etc), while also being a simple display piece perfect for a small statue, watch, or other cherished item. As you can see the top and bottom have carved in elements making this a slightly more elaborate example. The piece has the remains of old paint throughout, note the charming appearance from the wear to the polychromatic finish, making this a wonderful piece of period folk art. Would be certain to be a lovely example in an period country home or decorum, a wonderful means for displaying a period whimsy or placed in a country kitchen would work to hold items.
