. Large antique oil on canvas painting of the Des Moines River, circa late 1800's or very early 1900's. Unsigned. I purchased this in Fort Dodge, Iowa fifteen years ago in an antique shop. It appears to be unfinished. Size 33 1/2" x 28 1/2". Canvas mounted on old wooden stretcher with old nails. Very good to excellent condition with no holes or paint loss. There is an old water stain on the back. However it doesn't appear to affect the front of the painting. Possibly painted by Wilbur Reaser, a listed artist who lived and painted in Fort Dodge in the late 19th c. It has a wonderful illuminated glow in the evening light. It is quite amazing because as the light changes, the color of the sky and river changes. It was difficult to capture the colors in the photographs. The painting really has more of a soft pinkish - yellow in the sky and water and the trees are not so bright. Even though it is unfinished, it captures the calm and stillness that Iowa has..
