This Auction is for an Antique Pair of 14K Gold Lorgnette Spectacles. Considering age, these items are in good conditon and show little signs of use. Well preserved and in good working order, these came from an Estate Sale in Central Florida. T is a little button the opens these items, when closed it can be used as a magnifying glass. It is Marked 14K as well, t are only a few small surface scratches on the lenses. A lorgnette is a pair of spectacles with a handle, used to hold them in place, rather than fitting over the ears. They were invented by an Englishman named George Adams. The lorgnette was usually used as a piece of jewelry, rather than to enhance vision. Fashionable ladies usually preferred them to spectacles. These were very popular at masquerade parties and used often at the opera. They were worn popularly in the 19th century. All items are used unless stated otherwise.
