Up for bids is an antique saw gauge. This tool is almost identical to one that I sold last week, with only a few different details, such as smaller sized markings. The gauge measures approx 6.5" long, and has a clear embossed marking of : "Pat July 14, 1885". This patent is found in the DATAMP database as being issued to William H. Dessureau of Ostego Lake, Michigan; as a device for fitting crosscut saws. The tool is in very good condition, with no breaks ro repairs. The swage slot is showing some minor spreading, but still good. This gauge has a small hammer face which is showing a few edge chips. The adjustment is present and in smooth working order. I have shown several pictures so that you can better see some details. This tool has no rust or pitting, but has very little of the original japanning remaining. It is a unique example that is a scarce find in any condition. Ready for use or display, this early 1885 saw tool will make a welcome addition to your shop or collection, at a Low start price with no reserve.
