It’s well made from rope and iron and has both its original patent and receiving tags. Why not snap it up and add it to your collection now?? Patent Excerpt: “This invention relates to certain improvements in metallic thimbles for ropes and cordage, and to the method of manufacturing the same. In order to manufacture such thimbles economically it is necessary to make them, as far as possible, by machinery, and the main object of my invention is to facilitate the machine work on such thimbles, and to obviate to a great extent the hand manipulation at present required in their construction. The law stated that the model was to be no larger than 12 inches square, thus patent models are all miniature devices, which greatly adds to their appeal. These models were required for a little more than a half-century, circa 1836 to approximately 1890.
