This is a Karaja/Heriz Persian rug. It was woven in the village of Karaja (Qarajeh) which is in the northwest area of the Heriz weaving district that is located in northwest Persia. This is a gorgeous antique runner. Approx 3x11 . My dad was in the oriental rug business for 60 years. This was one of his rugs. It was hand woven in approx the 1920s. It has beautiful vegetable dyes! The rug has a few issues because of its age. Both ends probably could use some sort of repair. Also there are a couple of spots on the sides that could use some mending. The biggest issue is there is some pile missing near one end due to moth damage (see pics). This damage probably occurred decades ago. It is a little crooked (typical for old runners) not a lot crooked though. It also has some white knots showing on the front (not bad). With all of that said, I believe you can still use it "as is" if you want to. It has a very nice patina. I just had it professionally cleaned and moth proofed by a reputable rug dealer. Overall, I would say this rug is very nice considering it is almost 100 years old. It would sell for 4 or 5 times this price if perfect. I really feel you will not be disappointed. I am going to put this rug on consignment with a local rug dealer so I reserve the right to end this auction abruptly and without notice. I will have this piece read more
